Everything you might want to know about visiting, adopting, donating, and volunteering with RAIN Rescue.
Where are you located?+
RAIN Rescue is at 28482 CA-44, Shingletown, CA 96088. We serve Shingletown, Manton, Viola, Hat Creek, and Old Station.
What are your hours?+
The Thrift Store is closed Monday. Open Tue–Wed 11am–5pm, Thu–Sat 11am–6pm (summer), and Sunday 11am–5pm. Donations are accepted 11:30am–4pm every day except Monday.
I found an abandoned animal or need to rehome a pet - Help!+
Please do not bring pets to the shelter until you have talked to Meghan. She is available at (530) 474-5885. Leave a message if there is no answer. We do our best to help but we are a 100% volunteer shelter with no paid staff. At a minimum we can always help you create a PetFinder entry.
How can I adopt a pet from RAIN?+
Browse our available animals on Petfinder, then call (530) 474-5885 or email rainrescueca@outlook.com to start the adoption conversation.
How can I donate?+
You can give online through Givebutter or PayPal using the Donate buttons at the top of every page, drop off items at the Thrift Store, or send a check to our Shingletown address.
Do you accept item donations at the Thrift Store?+
Yes! Gently used household goods, furniture, décor, books, and collectibles are welcome during donation hours (11:30am–4pm, Tuesday–Sunday).
What items do you not accept for donation?+
Donations are accepted from 11am–4pm (except Mondays). Please always call first at (530) 474-5885 before dropping anything off.
We do not accept these items:
- Books, except classic novels, coffee table books, or vintage books. No encyclopedias, magazines, Reader’s Digests, or paperbacks.
- Car seats and cribs.
- Ceiling fans and lights.
- Coffee cups, unless they are collectible mugs.
- Clothing that is stained, torn, muddy, or very used.
- Crutches.
- Dishes that are not vintage or in tip-top shape.
- Electronics, unless they have been inspected first.
- Exercise equipment older than 2020.
- Filing cabinets, except wood.
- Furniture that is in poor repair, made of pressboard, etc.
- Ironing boards.
- Mattresses.
- Pillows not in original, unopened packages.
- Skis and ski boots.
- Tupperware, plastic containers, or storage items that are not in good or great condition.
- VHS and 8-track players or tapes.
It is illegal to dump anything on or around this property.

Are you a no-kill rescue?+
Yes. RAIN is a 100% volunteer, no-kill rescue. Every animal in our care stays with us until the right forever home is found.
Can I volunteer?+
Absolutely — we always need help at the Thrift Store, with animal care, and at events. Reach out at rainrescueca@outlook.com to get started.
Is my donation tax-deductible?+
Yes. RAIN Rescue is a registered nonprofit and donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We can provide a receipt on request.
